The management team of Boeing scheduled a meeting on Sunday 15th of December 2019 mainly to discuss the future of the Boeing 373 Max production line. The meeting is expected to give a solution on the fate of the Boeing 737 Max production line. Speculations are that the team will eventually cut down the production of 373 Max while maintaining some job at the production line till its issues with the FAA are resolved.
Before the two fatal crushes of Lion Air flight JT610 which occurred on the 29th of October 2018 and Ethiopian airlines flight ET302 which occurred on the 10th of March 2019, the Max production line was the most effective aircraft production line in the world and in History.
The Renton based factory was churning out 57 aircraft per month. This was later on reduced to 42 aircraft per month which was still higher than most production lines. It was later on resumed to 52 aircraft per month while they pressured the FAA to finalize on its inspections and paper work which is still barring the Max family from flying. At this rate, It is reported that there are over 800 aircrafts of the same family that are grounded mostly in the USA awaiting the judgement and final say from the FAA.
Certification of the b737 max is expected to be finalized by the end of February 2020. This falls far from Boeing’s earlier promises of putting their birds in the sky by the end of 2019. The FAA claims that it has more than a dozen items to be certified, chief among them being the newly released software patch for the MCAs that is fitted in all the 737 Max.
Another contention is on the training of the Max pilots. It is not clear whether these changes will make all the Max pilots to undergo a mandatory training or just train on the hardware updates that have been included in the patches that make the Max able to safely fly again. The expense incurred in training these pilots is also going to be a toll on the airlines who are pushing Boeing to cater for the expenses.
The shares of the company have started falling as traders wait for the final say on the fate of the production line which is to be out by the close of business on Monday 16th Dec 2019.
